itap-LOGOWhat’s better than a Goose Island Tap Takeover? How about a Keep the Pint event as well? This Wednesday, August 28th, starting at 6PM, the International Tap House in the Central West End will be hosting a very special Goose Island tap takeover.

If that wasn’t cool enough, there will be three different Goose Island glasses available (while supplies last) during the event. Here’s a look at the beers available tomorrow night:

312 Urban Ale
Night Stalker (2012)
25th Anniversary Ale
The Illinois
Big John (2012)
Matilda Lambicus

Check out the poster below for the glasses that will be available tomorrow night.

cuginoIf you’re up in north county and you’re a fan of beer, you’ll want to make a stop into Cugino’s Italian Grill & Bar. They have 56 beers on tap making it the largest selection of craft beer on draught in north county.

Well, Schlafly knows a good thing when they see it and have paired up with Cugino’s to put on a beer dinner this Thursday, August 29th at 6:30pm. You’ll get five Schlafly beers paired with five different courses. You cost will be $45 per person (which includes tax and gratuity) and you can make reservations by calling (314) 831-3222. Here’s a look at the menu:

feastday2013What makes an institution? I don’t know if I have the philosophical chops to define an institution, but it’s like the late Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said about pornography, “I know it when I see it.” In my mind, The Royale is now a south city institution.

What the hell does this have to do with beer? Well thepatron saint of our city: Louis IX of France. Also, August 25th is the Feast Day of Louis IX. To celebrate this occasion, the Royale is throwing their 3rd annual Feast Day to commemorate all things awesome about St. Louis. One of those awesome things is Perennial Artisan Ales.

The Royale has teamed up with Perennial to create a special beer just for this event: “a European-style lager brewed with local plums in a nod to Rakija, the celebratory plum brandy of the Balkans.” But the fun doesn’t stop there, check out this line-up of beers:

2nd Shift – Brew Cocky Double IPA
4 Hands – Grapefruit Prussia Berliner Weisse
Boulevard – Saison-Brett
Civil Life – Rye Pale Ale
Crown Valley – Strawberry Cider
O’Fallon – 5 Day IPA
Perennial Royale Vitae – Official Feast Day lager brewed with local plums
Perennial Barry Rye – Dark Rye Ale fermented on blackberries
Schlafly – Pumpkin Ale
Schlafly – Vanilla Imperial Stout
Six Row – Whale
Urban Chestnut – O’Florian’s Irish Dry Stout (nitro)

Also, they’ll be tapping a special cask of Excel Eastside IPA with habenero peppers and dry-hopped with Centennial. All of these events begin at 11:30 and the cask will be tapped at 1PM. No tickets are necessary, just show up and enjoy some great beer.

2009_05_16_1508It’s time to have another STL Hops Pinball Party! This year’s event will take place at at CP Pinball in South Roxana, Illinois on September 28th from 6PM-10PM.

We have two different ticket prices again this year, so here’s the run down:

The cost of the event is $15 per person which provides you with all the pinball you can play for 4 hours. If you’re looking for transportation to and from the event, we’ve rented a bus that will pick people up at Lafayette Park and return them after the event. This will cost you an extra $10. Transportation this year will be graciously provided by STL Brewery Hop (make sure to check them out!)

Just Pinball: $15
Pinball + Bus Fare: $25

Seems like a pretty great deal for safe travel to and from the event.

We’re going to have a bunch of people bringing different beers to sample and you’re welcome to bring something you’ve been hording as well. We’re also going to have some delicious pizza from Bigelo’s Bistro.

Tickets for this event are being sold through Brown Paper Tickets (click that link!). Only 50 tickets are being made available at this time, so I wouldn’t wait around to buy them. Be certain to check out some of the photos from Sauce Magazine from the original pinball event, it was pretty awesome.

If you’re looking to try some tasty brew and help out then men in blue, be certain to check out the Hops for Cops Microfest event taking place on Thursday, September 5th from 5-10PM. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 day of event. Your ticket will get you a commemorative glass along with unlimited samples (at least until the beer runs out).

The event will be taking place at the Casa Loma Ballroom located at 3354 Iowa. Food and live music will be provided as well. You can purchase tickets here.

edgarwright-500There is a good chance that unless you’re a pop-culture supernerd, the headline for this post makes zero sense outside of the words, “Schlafly Tap Room.”  To clear things up a bit, the Cornetto Trilogy is the name for the three movies that Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost created together following their British television show, Spaced.

If this still isn’t making much sense, let me boil it down further.  This Saturday, August 3rd, there will be an outdoor screening of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz at the Schlafly Tap Room beginning at 8:30PM. This will be a double feature of Edgar Wright’s films to celebrate the final film in the “trilogy”: The World’s End.

While I adore Shaun of the Dead, I must say that Hot Fuzz may be one of the finest comedies produced in the past 20 years. It’s layered in a way that allows to not only enjoy it on multiple viewings, but also pick up stuff you may have missed the first time around.  I’m not kidding when I say I’ve seen it at least 30 times.

So yes, I’m a bit of a superfan.  And if you have never seen either of these films and end up disliking them, I’ll just attribute it to your terrible, terrible taste.

Anyway, bring your blanket or chairs.  Beers will be available for purchase for your enjoyment of these fantastic films.
