wineandcheeselogo_128x80.jpgBecause its been such a popular program, The Wine and Cheese Place has continued working with local brewers to create very special collaborations featuring beers being aged in a number of different barrels. Well, the newest one featuring 4 Hands Brewing Bona Fide Imperial Coffee Stout aged in Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey Barrel, is ready for release.

Only a very, very limited number of these bottles have been created, which means they’re going to be very difficult to get. But here’s your chance to not only have first crack a purchasing one of these limited bottles but to also attend the release party taking place this Thursday and have your first chance to try this beer.

Send an email to contest@stlhops.com with the subject of 4 Hands Bona Fide Release, I’ll randomly pick two winners on Thursday, May 2nd at 9AM. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • If you can’t attend, please don’t enter.
  • You must be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.

Big thanks to Paul Hayden from The Wine and Cheese Place for donating the two tickets to the party.

Heritage Tour PosterIf you weren’t aware, there’s a cool little blog on the world wide interwebs that likes to discuss the history of St. Louis and Manhattans. It’s called Distilled History and you should check it out if you feel like learning some interesting things about the history of our fair city.

One beer-relevant post he did back in October was the history of Joseph Schnaider’s Brewery and its amazing beer garden.  I’ll spare you most of the details (click here to read the post), but the beer garden was several acres big and would serve thousands of people on any given day.

There are many more interesting posts, and after reading them, you will quickly learn why it was voted as the Best Personal Blog in the 2013 RFT Web Awards.

All this back story leads to why you should take part in the Southside Brewing Heritage Tour that will be hosted by the Landmarks Association of St Louis and Distilled History on Sunday, May 19. You will tour old brewing sites and buildings that still exist all while having a few local beers on the bus.

Tickets are $45.00 for members of Landmarks Association and $55.00 for non-members. Call Landmarks Association at (314) 421-6474 or email Andrew Weil (aweil@landmarks-stl.org) at Landmarks to purchase tickets. Seats are limited and additional bar tabs at tour stops are not included. Participants must be 21 or older.

You can read some more info about the tour in Distilled History’s post here.

How are we only 5 days away from May and I’m still wearing a sweater? I didn’t see them myself, but I know there were even some snow flurries the other day. That’s crazy talk.  We need spring and we need it now.

So, to help bring spring here  Urban Chestnut Brewing Company has brought back their  Maifest festival. Taking place on Saturday, May 11th, this will certainly be a party that would make Bacchus blush.

Along with BBQ from The Block, Smoki-O’s, and Matthews, you will also be able to enjoy some of the fresh bock beer UCBC brewed especially for this celebration of spring.

The best part about this festival?  It’s free.  There are no ticket charges, just come out between 11AM-11PM on Saturday, May 11th and purchase beer and food to sample throughout the day.  There will be commemorative t-shirts and glassware available for purchase as well.

Saturday, May 11th will be a great opportunity to rock out with your bock out at UCBC.

While it’s fun to be on the hunt to try and find that special or fun beer, it can be pretty tiring. Well, you can stop running all around town and visit Llywelyn’s Pub in Webster Groves and St. Charles (and also now in Wildwood!) to see something cool on tap. Llywelyn’s is continuing their program that they’ve been calling “A Brew You Never Knew.”

Each Wednesday, Llywelyn’s will feature a single beer on draught that may have been overlooked or in some cases is the only draught version of that beer in town. It’ll be a chance to re-visit an old favorite or even discover something you’ve never had before.

This week Llyweyln’s in Webster will have Avery Maharaja on tap. While the St. Charles location will be serving up the 4 Hands Contact High on draft and the Wildwood location will have Six Row Pretender to the Throne on tap tonight. So, if you’re looking for something special without all of the lists and missed opportunities, make sure to stop into Llywelyn’s in St. Charles, Wildwood or Webster tonight!

Beer Fest 2013Whoops, almost forgot to announce some winners this morning.  I’m happy to announce that the winners of this Saturday’s Beerfest at the Wine and Cheese Place on Forsyth are:

  • Daniel Knoll
  • Mike Shaughnessy

Both winners receives two tickets to the sold-out VIP session on Saturday, May 11th. Even if you didn’t win, you’re still able to attend the general session which will run between 2PM-4PM. The cost is only $5 and you’ll have the chance to try over 120 different beers. For more information, please be sure to check out the Wine and Cheese Place’s blog.

Thanks to Paul Hayden for giving us these tickets!
