Archive for January, 2012

It seems like just yesterday when the business card above was left at the International Tap House in Soulard. So it seems almost fitting that the launch party for Deschutes Brewery came full circle and hosted their St. Louis launch party at that same iTAP.

It wasn’t a big spectacle. There weren’t people yelling into megaphones or stage-diving off the bar, it was just a bunch of great people enjoying some great beer. If you weren’t able to attend, here are a few photos from the evening.

After Schlafly’s Cabin Fever and the Centennial Beer Festival have passed, there really aren’t a lot of beer events that happen during the coldest months of winter in St. Louis. But let’s face it, this is the best time of year for drinking.

So, Steve Crider and crew from 2nd Shift Brewing have come to the rescue by holding their 1st 43rd Annual WinterCask Festival at their New Haven location. This cask festival will be featuring casks from eight different breweries from around the St. Louis area. Here’s a list of who will be serving beer:

  • 2nd Shift Brewing
  • 4 Hands Brewing
  • Charleville Brewing
  • Civil Life Brewing Co
  • Exit 6 Brewing
  • Perennial Artisan Ales
  • Schlafly Tap Room
  • Urban Chestnut Brewing Co

This event will be taking place beginning at 5PM on Saturday, February 18th. The most unique part about this festival is that it will be an overnight extravaganza. Tickets for this event will cost you $150 for one person or $210 for two people. That may seem like a lot of money for a beer festival, but not when you consider you’ll be getting:

  • Cask beer
  • Dinner
  • Snacks
  • Hanging out with local brewers
  • A room to stay overnight
  • And breakfast the next morning

Those of you that stayed overnight at the 2nd Shift and Friends 201st Beer Festival can attest that the overnight experience is well worth the price of admission. If you’re interested in attending, you can purchase tickets for the event at any of the locations listed above.  Only 60 tickets will be made available for this event and the last I heard, they’re going quickly.

Don’t miss out on what has to be one of the most unique beer festivals in one of the most unique locations in all of Missouri.

Groundskeeper Willie

21 years and counting. That’s how long Schlafly has been holding their longest running event, Burns Night, a celebration of Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns. If you’ve never attended, make sure that next Wednesday, January 25th is open on your calendar, because this is an event you do not want to miss.

Beginning at 5pm, you’ll start to see a bunch of people proudly sporting the tartan ready to get their fill of Scottish delights such as haggis, shepherd’s pie and scotch eggs. Then sit back and listen as St. Louis Brewery co-founder Tom Schlafly recites his yearly poem and make sure to enjoy the release of this year’s addition of the Scotch Ale.

So dust off your bagpipe and your kilt and get your arse to the Tap Room on Tuesday night (but don’t get there too late or you won’t find a seat downstairs.)

Oops, I guess all of the excitement of the festival this weekend slowed down my brain, forgot to announce the winner of the Cabin Fever tickets.  Well, I’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to the Cabin Fever is lmurphy (Don’t have a full name, just an email address)! Congrats to Mr. or Ms. Murphy and thank you everyone for entering.

If you didn’t win, I’ve definitely have some cool contests lurking around the corner. I once again want to thank everyone from The St. Louis Brewery for providing the tickets to this event. Hope to see a lot of you at the festival!

Begun 3 years ago by local brewing legend Drew Huerter, the STL Hops Big Black Beer Bash celebration seems to be getting bigger every year. Again this year, Cory King (with the help of Eric Hildebrandt) took the reigns for putting the event together and it was another tremendous success. So much delicious big and black beer being drank.

If you couldn’t make it out, here are a few photos from the event:
