While there are always plenty of dining options on New Year’s Eve, there are rarely any that are fully focused around beer. Luckily Perennial Artisan Ales said, “Why not?”

On Saturday, December 31st, Perennial will be teaming with Entre Dining to provide plenty of great food and great beer. You have plenty of options to go around on this beer dinner. You can either get 3 courses for $45 or 4 courses for $50. Also, you can opt for 3 beers pairings for an additional $10 or $12 for 4 pairings.

To increase your options, Perennial will be forgoing the traditional NYE specific seatings and will be taking reservations for the entire evening. You can make reservations by calling Emily at 314-631-7300. Here’s a look at the menu:

taproomlogo_94x128.jpgThis is the big one. Schlafly has been in our lives for 20 years. For a lot of people just turning 21 this year, they’ve never known a world without Schlafly. That’s a pretty cool and scary thought for many of us.

To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, Schlafly is forgoing the standard just serving beer at 1991 prices on December 26th and making it a full weekend of celebration. Beginning on Thursday, December 22nd and running through December 26th, the Schlafly Tap Room will be selling their beers at the 1991 pricing.

There will also be live music on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. Here’s who’s playing this weekend:

Dec. 22nd 8PM – Magic City, Spelling Bee, Half Gay, TOK
Dec. 23rd 8PM – The Flying Mules, The Orbits, Fairchild
Dec. 26th 6 9:30PM – Lucky Dog Band

Schlafly will be open on Christmas Eve, with the restaurant closing at 3PM, and the bar closing at 5PM. They will be closed on Christmas Day. Come and celebrate with the fine folks at Schlafly and make sure to wish them a very happy birthday.

The HandleBar, is ready to start your Christmas vacation off right as they’ll be holding their second “Beer Christmas” starting at 7PM on Thursday, December 22nd. To put some jingle in your stocking the fine folks at Six Row Brewing Company will be bringing a very special cask of Snickerdoodle Porter that’s a cinnamon stick spiced variation of the Six Row Vanilla Porter.

Not only will there be a special cask, but each pint you purchase will earn you a raffle ticket for possibly winning some “gifts” wrapped under the tree. After the cask blows, all of the taps turn back to happy hour pricing!

If you’re looking to avoid the Christmas ham, the Handlebar kitchen will still be serving up some awesome grub.  This sounds like a great excuse to get out of the house before you’re surrounded by family in that ugly Christmas sweater.

itap.jpgI don’t always have much (or any) Christmas spirit. December is just not one of my favorite months. One of the things that annoys me the most is just how damned early it gets dark. It’s not much fun to wake up in the dark and come home from work in the dark.

But dark isn’t always bad.  Take for instance the iTAP Nightmare Before Christmas.  This Saturday, December 17th the International Tap House (both locations) will be putting on a bunch of big, rare beers, and a bunch of dark beers to boot. Here’s a list of what to expect:

  • Goose Island Bourbon County Stout (2010) (Soulard only but 2007 BCS bottles in Chesterfield)
  • Avery Mephistopholes
  • Avery Samaels
  • Avery The Beast
  • Jolly Pumpkin Dark Dawn (Soulard)
  • Firestone Walker/Nectar Black Xanthus
  • Lenienkugal Big Eddy Imperial Russian Stout
  • Old Rasputin
  • Odell Bourbon Barrel Stout
  • Grand Teton Black Cauldron
  • Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti
  • Bells Hell Hath No Fury
  • Charleville Whiskey Scented Santa
  • Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast

  • Founder’s Breakfast Stout
  • Nogne Winter Ale
  • Nogne Imp Stout
  • Maudite
  • Dragon’s Milk
  • Lucifer
  • Stone Double Bastard
  • Stone RIS
  • Arcadia Cocoa Loca
  • Perennial Abraxas

If that’s not enough beer to tickle your fancy, there will also be a cask of the Urban Chestnut Harwood Myth English Porter at each location as well. This event starts at 12PM on Saturday, plenty of time to drink some dark before it gets dark outside.

As the lead up to Schlafly‘s 20th Anniversary continues we’re seeing all kinds of places around town get into the birthday fun.

In this case, it’s taking a cask of Schlafly beer and serving it at Bigelo’s Bistro in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Next Monday, December 19th, starting a 6PM, Dan Kopman from Schlafly will be on hand to help tap a cask of the very special Old Ale.  But that’s not all, but beginning on the 19th and continuing up until the new year Bigelo’s will be doing a total tap takeover featuring 12 different Schlafly beers on their taps at $3 a pint. Here’s a list of just some of the beers we’ll be seeing:

  • Pale
  • Hefeweizen
  • APA
  • Oatmeal Stout
  • Biere de Garde
  • Coffee Stout
  • Christmas Ale
  • Rye IPA
  • ESB
  • Bourbon Imperial Stout
  • Oak aged Barleywine
  • Porter
  • Schwarzbier
  • Kolsch

Nothing quite like being able to celebrate Schlafly’s anniversary right in your own backyard. While you’re at Bigelo’s, make sure to ask for the very awesome STL Hops pizza.

Let’s all forget the bad news today and focus on some good news. For one night only, Newstead Tower Public House will live again.

When it came time to put on a Goose Island beer dinner at Five Bistro, chef/owner Anthony Devoti thought back to his favorite beer dinner he ever put on, which was at the now closed Newstead Tower Public House. So he decided to bring back some of the most requested dishes for this very special dinner.

So, next Thursday, December 15th, beginning at 7PM, Newstead comes back to life at Five Bistro. The meal will cost you $55 per person and will feature one very special item that will make some of you sour beer fans very happy. Reservations can be made by calling 314-773-5553.
