SixRow_logoYou know what’s sexy? Vanilla. Don’t believe me? Well then ask the fine folks at  The sweet and pleasing aroma makes both men and women happy.  You know what makes me happy?  Beer.

Well, the best of both worlds will be taking place as Six Row Brewing Company will be holding a special cask event this Thursday, January 6th starting at 6PM.  Six Row will be serving up a very special cask of a Vanilla Bean Porter.

Six Row has taken their Strong Porter and then combined it with some Madagascar vanilla beans to create a luscious, velvety beer.   Here’s a description of the standard Strong Porter:

Dark, malty, chocolaty, great hop aroma; all can be said of Six Row’s Strong Porter. Strong because of the increased alcohol content, hop bitterness and aroma. The Strong Porter was brewed with authentic English malt alongside Black and Chocolate malt to add complexity. The deepness of the malt is complimented by East Kent Goldings and Fuggle hops to balance the slight sweetness typical of traditional English Porters.

The combination of vanilla beans with this Porter sounds like love at first sight.

cabinfeverart.gifThough I didn’t get to attend last year, the Schlafly Cabin Fever, which takes place at the Schlafly Bottleworks is consistently one of my favorite beer events in St. Louis.    For those who haven’t attended before, this festival isn’t for the faint of heart.

Imagine a bunch of people, all wearing the warmest clothes they could find and all standing outside on a January afternoon and drinking some of the biggest beers that the St. Louis Brewery has to offer.  Oh, there are also a few wusses that stand inside.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, January 22nd from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Tickets will run you $25 in advance or $30 day of. Tickets are on sale now and you can purchase tickets here.

Be sure to check out some of the photos from the 2009 Cabin Fever.  I’m sure I’ll see you there, unless you’re standing inside, sissy.
