The HandleBar, is ready to start your Christmas vacation off right as they’ll be holding their first “Beer Christmas” starting at 6PM on Thursday, December 23rd. To put some jingle in your stocking the fine folks at Six Row Brewing Company will be bringing a very special cask of Spiced Belgian Dubbel that contains cinnamon, vanilla and ginger.

Not only will there be a special cask, but each pint you purchase will earn you a raffle ticket for possibly winning some “gifts” wrapped under the tree. There will also be additional prizes given away from breweries such as Goose Island and Schlafly.

If you’re looking to avoid the Christmas ham, the Handlebar kitchen will still be serving up some awesome grub.  This sounds like a great excuse to get out of the house before you’re surrounded by family in that ugly Christmas sweater.

sq1r-y-cropped-small-web-viewSt. Louis will be awash with at least three new breweries in 2011, but the long established breweries aren’t going to let the new guys have all of the fun. Square One Brewery added one new serving tank and two new fermenters to their Lafayette Square location.

According to Square One head brewer John Witte, the new fermenters are not only in place but have already been filled with an Imperial IPA and our Barley Wine. Square One has increased their beer business by 10% this year and the three fermenters they were previously using were, in John Witte’s words, “Limiting.”  Not only will the new equipment allow Square One to produce more beer, but Witte promises new styles in the future as well.

A great option to try out some of  Square One’s most creative beer is their New Year’s Eve Big Beer Dinner. Three or four different courses will be paired with “big” beers from Square One. You can make reservations for this dinner by calling 314-231-2537.

Photos of the new tanks below were provided thanks to the Square One Facebook page.

Last year, I showed you a photo of just some of the casks that Schlafly purchased to expand their cask beer program. Well, when you have this many casks at your disposal, it means you get to put on events showcasing your beer.

In this case, it’s taking a cask of Schlafly beer and serving it at Bigelo’s Bistro in Edwardsville, Illinois.

This Satuday, December 18th, starting at Noon, a representative from Schlafly will be tapping a cask of Dry-Hopped APA and will be serving it until the cask runs out or until Bigelo’s closes.

Nothing quite like being able to enjoy some great cask beer right in your own backyard.  Or, it’s even better to make a day of heading out to Edwardsville! While you’re at Bigelo’s, make sure to ask for the very awesome STL Hops pizza.

Don’t know what to get for that animal and beer lover in your life?  How about a bar crawl?  This Thursday, December 16th starting at 6PM, New Belgium Brewing Company will be having a bar crawl on Main Street in St. Charles.

Not only will there be New Belgium drink specials at Old Millstream Inn, Llywelyn’s Pub, and R.T. Weilers but they’ll also be raffling off one of those extra special, awesome New Belgium bicycles.  Proceeds from the raffle  will go to benefit the St. Charles Humane Society.  They’ll be raffling the bike off promptly at 10PM.

So, forgo the wrapping paper and give the gift of beer, fun, and charity.

taproomlogo_94x128.jpgI know how it is, the present are opened, the tinsel has lost its luster and you may be feeling the post X-Mas blues. Well, I know how to perk you up: cheap beer. Schlafly is celebrating it’s 19th Anniversary party at the Tap Room on Sunday, December 26th by serving beer at 1991 prices all day long.

If that’s not enough to pique your interest how about a discounted SIP Club membership as well? The standard SIP Club price is $25 for an annual membership, but on Sunday only, you can purchase a membership for $19. Here are just a few things a SIP Club membership gets you:

  • A custom SIP Club stein for home
  • A Schlafly discount card: present to server or bartender and receive a 20 oz. beer for the price of a 16 oz. (excluding beers over 8% alcohol)
  • 10% discount in our retail shops
  • Invitation to special in-house member-only tastings and events

Come and celebrate with the fine folks at Schlafly.

SixRow_logoThe first year of business for any small business is often the most difficult and most turbulent.  So anytime you make through that first year, you gotta party.  This Saturday, from Noon to Midnight, Six Row Brewing Company will be celebrating their first birthday.

They’ll be doing it the best way they know how, by serving up some great beer at great prices.  Not only will they be offering up drink specials all day, but they’ll also have special casks, food deals, commemorative glassware and free birthday cake (while it lasts.)

This first year of Six Row has brought about some really great beers, I’m exciting to see what the future holds.
