stlhopslogosmall.gifSorry about the delay on this, I have a new job and that’s taking up quite a bit of my time.

So, I’m pleased to announce that the winner for the two tickets to the STL Hops Third Anniversary Party is Matt Belz! Congrats to Matt and thank you everyone for entering.

I once again want to thank everyone for selling out this event. It’s very exciting to see how passionate people are about beer in St. Louis and this event is proof that people care not only about beer, but also about helping stray animals. Thank you all once again.

Coming later today, I’m going to list all of the beers we’ll have at the party. I’ll also have a list of things you’ll need to bring. Thanks to everyone for bearing with me.

stlhopslogosmall.gifCouldn’t buy tickets?  Couldn’t afford tickets?  Well, you’re in luck, because I’m looking for a few hard-working souls (this won’t be hard-work) to help out at the STL Hops Anniversary Party. You work two hours (while still enjoying the party) and you then get two hours to enjoy the party.

It’s as simple as that. If you’re interested, please email me ( with a subject line of STL Hops Volunteer. I only need a few people, so it’ll probably be first come, first serve.

Stay tuned for additional information about the party tomorrow!

ciceros.jpg Cicero’s Italian Restaurant continues their fall Beer School semester this Wednesday from 5:30-6:30PM. Cicero’s Beer School provides background about beers and beer styles usually directly from people directly in the beer industry.

It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about a style you’re unfamiliar with or to just brush up on a style you haven’t enjoyed in a while.

This week’s school is being taught by Jim McGinn from Missouri Beverage. Jim will be on hand to discuss and sample some Bitch Creek ESB, Founders Breakfast Stout, Triple Karmelite, and Saison Dupont. Go out and take advantage of one of the few places where you can drink and learn!

If you can’t make it out to the Beer School, you can check out all of the classes via podcast at

royaleJust about every Tuesday evening, The Royale’s Matt Thenhaus hosts an event where he guides you through the wonderful world of beer styles and beer history. This week he’ll be featuring an event he calls: “Hop Harvest” Here’s a quick synopsis of what will be on tap:

Not just tongue-scraping Imperials, but real fresh hop aroma and flavor. Grapefruit, pine needles–you know: WEST COAST. We’ll also have the place to ourselves due to the kitchen being closed for equipment replacement.

Hop Harvest from Founders on draft; the Fresh Hop Ale on draft from our friends at Schlafly; and the Northern Hemisphere Harvest Bomber Bottles from Sierra Nevada.

As Matt is extremely passionate and extremely knowledgeable this is a great opportunity to not only enjoy some great beer, but to learn about just some of the great styles of beer we have available in St. Louis.

While it’s fun to turn the big 2-0, let’s face it, it’s all about turning 21.  To celebrate their 21st anniversary, Boulevard Brewing is throwing a party on both sides of the river to celebrate.  On Wednesday, November 17th, Boulevard will be throwing parties at both Bigelo’s Bistro in Illinois and Pi Pizzeria on Delmar.

Not only will representatives from Boulevard be available at restaurants, but rumor has it that some of the special 21st Anniversary Fresh Hop Pale Ale will be available.  I’ve been told these are the only two kegs available in the area, so you know it’s not going to last long.

While there are no set times for these events, it sounds like Boulevard’s Laura Dale will be at Bigelo’s starting at about 4PM and Pi at around 7PM.  Be sure to go out and wish Boulevard a very happy birthday.

stlhopslogosmall.gifAs you may have found out if you’ve gone to buy tickets over the weekend, the STL Hops Third Anniversary Party is now SOLD OUT. If you weren’t able to get your tickets in time, here’s your last chance to attend the party. I’m going to be giving away two tickets to this Friday’s Anniversary Party.

If you’re interested in winning two tickets send an email to with the subject of “Anniversary Party Tickets”. I’ll pick the winner on Thursday, November 18th at 2PM. If you’ve already got tickets I’d ask that you’d be kind enough to let those who didn’t get tickets have a chance of winning. A couple of quick notes:

  • If you’ve won something from STL Hops in the past 6 months, please be cool and let someone else enter.
  • You much be 21 or older to enter.
  • No multiple entries.
  • If you don’t think you’ll be able to attend, please don’t enter. I’d like to make sure that people available to attend have a chance to win.

Later this week I’ll be showing off some of the prizes that are going to be up for raffle and silent auction. So stay tuned.
