stlhopslogosmall.gifFirst of all, big thanks to Schlafly, Stephen Hale, Andy White, James Nichols, and Augie Altenbaumer for helping out with this event. It couldn’t have nearly as successful without their help.  Also a big thanks to all of the volunteers that helped out by selling tickets and getting people in the door.  We raised  a ton of money because of their help

I once again want to thank all of the breweries and distributors, O’Fallon, Schlafly, Goose Island, Six Row Brewing, Civil Life Brewery, Perennial Artisan Ale, Bell’s Brewery, Summit Distributing, 2nd ShiftMajor Brands, Amalgamated BrewingMissouri Beverage, Founders BreweryNew Belgium Brewing, Crispin Cider and Boulevard, that participated in donating time and beer.

I also once again want to thank the following places for donating items for raffles and giveaways:

After everything has been paid for, we raised an incredible $3800 for Stray Rescue of St. Louis. I was flabbergasted by the generosity of everyone involved and this money is going to a great cause.

Thank you all, once again for a fantastic event and a fantastic year of beer in St. Louis. I’m looking forward to planning next year’s event already.

I don’t know about you, but I have no desire to get up at 4AM, stand in the bitter cold all to buy some crap for 2 bucks off. Wouldn’t you rather sleep in, eat some leftovers and then go out and join your friends for some beer? More importantly, wouldn’t you rather partake in some special beer and beer specials? Here’s a look at two events going on this Black Friday:

International Tap House (both locations)
Both iTaps will be opening at 1PM this Friday and will be kicking off the holiday season with some holiday beers. You can expect to see beers such as St. Bernardus Christmas, Jolly Pumpkin Noel, N’Ice Chouffe, Sierra Nevada Celebration, and So Tier Old Man Winter. This event will run from 1PM until iTap closes.

The Stable
We could all use some extra scratch this holiday season which is why The Stable will be offering up beer specials this Friday from 1PM to 4PM on select beers. You’ll find special pints of craft beer for as low as $2 and select pitchers for as low as $8.

Don’t get caught at home all holiday weekend, ditch the family and join your STL beer family.

This is the time of the year where you’re going to see article after article giving you advice on what beer pairs best with Thanksgiving dinner.  It’s a noble effort.  When beer pairings are done well, they can truly be works of art sending your taste buds on a majestic journey.

But I’m going to give a piece of advice that a lot of beer writers/bloggers are less likely to give: Drink what you want.

Instead of worrying and fretting over what beer will pair with not only the cranberry sauce but also the turkey, green beans and sweet potatoes (hint, there are things that go well with each, but nothing that pairs amazing with everything.) Just pick your favorite beer and enjoy.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on everything that we have to give thanks for.  For many of us, it can be about family, friends, and the company of others.  It’s perfectly fine just to sit back, enjoy your meal and just enjoy your favorite beer.

And while we’re at it, these family get-togethers are the perfect opportunity to introduce people to new beers.  This is the time to break out some of the beer you’ve been meaning to try but didn’t have that specific spot for it.  Who better to share some of your best beer with than the people you spend a holiday with?

Sure, they may not be some of your beer buddies, but that’s even better.  Instead of sitting there trying to analyze the beer, you can let someone who may not have had something this complex really experience what great beer is.

So, give thanks this holiday by freeing yourself from the shackles of constantly trying to pair beer with Thanksgiving. Sitting back and just enjoying a beer with friends and family is something truly to be thankful for.

stable_128x126.jpgThe Stable will be putting a on a beer dinner next Wednesday, December 1st featuring five courses paired with beers from Bell’s Brewery. If that’s not enough to whet your interest, I’m also told that this dinner will be hosted by Jim O’Connor from Bell’s!

The dinner will begin at 7:00PM and the price for this event is $40 which included tax and gratuity. Reservations can be made by calling 314-771-8500. Here’s a look at the menu:

Bell’s Two Hearted Ale
Crispy grit cakes, shrimp etouffee with braised kale.

Bell’s Double Cream Stout Cask
Braised beef short ribs, root vegetable puree` ,parsnip turnip and roasted carrots with a cream stout gravy.

Bell’s Winter White
Bone in pork chop, fennel apple and potato gratin, warm arugula salad with a mustard bacon vinaigrette.

Bell’s Batch 9000
Plum clafoutis with salty caramel ice cream.

Look at this nifty pairing guide that Schlafly helped produce for Wisconsin Cheese and Schnucks.  Pretty slick.  (Click to download the PDF)

While I plan on bringing a few tasting glasses, it would be best if you brought your own tasting glass. Please make it an actual tasting glass if at all possible.  I’d rather people not drink whole pints. Also as you’re going to see in a second, we’re going to have a lot of beer. A lot of beer. First thing, be safe. If you need a ride, let someone know.

No growlers this year. We’ll have plenty of people to drink all of the beer.  No need to take any home.

There will be snacks provided. The past few years have seen a lot of food at this party, so make sure to enjoy some of the delicious food.

We will be doing wristbands this year.  So, if you don’t have a ticket and a wristband, don’t be surprised if someone asks you to leave.  Can’t crash the party, sorry.

We received a ton of swag this year, so bring some money along (a check book wouldn’t hurt for the silent auction) with you as this is for a great cause, Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

All beers listed below with a ????? will be a surprise for both me and you.

Now, here’s a list of the beers/breweries that I know are confirmed for the party at this point:

Here’s a list of some the places that have provided prizes for tomorrow night’s event (I’m sorry if I missed you!):

Oh, one last thing, the Friday Round-Up will be making a switch to Saturday this week.  As you can imagine, I’m a little busy today.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me an email (my email address is in the Contact page), I’ll try and answer it when I free up some time. Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow night.
