logo1Tomorrow is the first Friday of the month, so that must mean it’s time for another fantastic pairing of best place to get Neapolitan Pizza in the St. Louis area, The Good Pie, and a chance to enjoy some delicious cask beer from Schlafly.

This Friday, October 1st, starting a 5PM, a representative from the St. Louis Brewery will be tapping a cask of the Schlafly Wet Hopped Hop Harvest. They’ll be serving it until the cask runs out or The Good Pie closes.

Sure, you can get cask beer at the Tap Room, but you can’t get Neapolitan Pizza to go along with it! Head on out there for some great pizza and beer.

question_mark.jpgWe haven’t dipped into the old mailbag in a while, maybe someone could help these ladies out:

So my boyfriend and I are both STL beer fanatics.  I am trying to brain-storm a beer themed surprise.  Have considered splurging on VIP tickets to Soulard Oktoberfest, other beer festival tickets, etc.  But we tend to go to a lot of those things as a matter of course already.  Have you heard of any events happening in October or early November slightly off the standard festival beat.  Moulin sometimes does beer tasting menus at Vin de Set, but they don’t have any coming up.  Any other restaurants/brew pubs you can think of that do special tasting menus – perhaps on request if not as an event?  Anything you can think of off the top of the head would be great – but I know this is an unwieldy question.  Thanks for your time!

And this nice lady is looking for a Brazilian beer:

My husband is Brazilian and is dying to drink a Skol, its a Brazilian beer. I heard that there is a store downtown that sells them. Do you know anything about this or if Skol is available for purchase anywhere in St. Louis?

Can anyone provide any help for these questions?

logo1I try to not use STL Hops for non-beer related news, but this is an issue dear to my heart, so I’m sure everyone will understand.  One of my favorite (if not favorite) restaurants in St. Louis is The Good Pie.  It’s not unlikely to find me in there at least once a week.

Over the time I’ve been going, I’ve gotten to be friendly with everyone working there.  So I was absolutely floored when I heard the news that one of The Good Pie’s pizzaioli, Ryan Skyles, was the victim of a hit and run accident.  Luckily, Ryan is alive, but he’s pretty banged up.  Plus, his bike is trashed.

So today, to help raise some money for Ryan’s medical bills and for a new bike, The Good Pie, 33 Wine Bar, and Gioia’s Deli will be donating all proceeds to Ryan.  To make this a semi-beer related post, The Good Pie and 33 Wine bar have fantastic beer selections all of the time.  So, be sure to help do your part to help out Ryan.

royaleJust about every Tuesday evening, The Royale’s Matt Thenhaus hosts an event where he guides you through the wonderful world of beer styles and beer history. This week he’ll be featuring an event he calls: “Frankenbeers!” Here’s a quick synopsis of what will be on tap:

Most beers can be easily categorized. But sometime, a brewer gets a little more creative. Tonight we focus on products of innovative brewers for whom tradition is just the starting point. Hybrids–unconventional combinations of hops and malt often utilizing uncommon brewing techniques–provide us with new ways to think about the endless possibilities of beer.

As Matt is extremely passionate and extremely knowledgeable this is a great opportunity to not only enjoy some great beer, but to learn about just some of the great styles of beer we have available in St. Louis.

freshhopFor all of you hop heads out there, you know this is a very special time of the year, it’s hop harvesting time.  It’s the time when breweries begin receiving their 2010 hop crop and begin producing some of the best fresh hop beers available.

To help celebrate that time, Schlafly has decided to put on the second annual Fresh Hop Ale Festival.  This festival will be occurring on Saturday, October 16th from 12PM-4PM at the Schlafly Bottleworks and tickets will cost $25 in advance ($30, day of.)

The St. Louis Brewery purchased a bulk amount of fresh hops from Gamache Farms in Toppenish, Washington, which were then distributed to a number of area brewers who will create their own freshly hopped creation.  Here’s the currently list of participating breweries:

As this will be held in a format similar to Cabin Fever, tickets will be limited and this is sure to sell out fast. You can purchase tickets here.
