Paul Hayden from the Wine and Cheese Place dropped me a very brief email letting me know that Bell’s Brewery‘s Batch 9000has just hit the St. Louis area.  Each 1000 batches, Bell’s puts out a very special commemorative beer to celebrate.

The back story on this beer is that Batch 7000 was an Imperial Stout and a beer that many people thought was the best beer Bell’s ever made.  Batch 9000 is a DOUBLE version of Batch 7000.  So, it’s big.

And because it’s big, it’s very limited and very much in demand.  Don’t wait around, this beer isn’t going to last long. For more information about this beer, check out this story from BeerNews.org.

I’ve made a change in how the beer tastings will be listed in the Friday Round-Up, it’s going to be a week’s worth of tastings starting with the Friday that the list is posted. Today, from 4PM to 6:30PM the Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton will be hosting Ron Lindenbusch and Karen Hamilton from Lagunitas where they will be offering up tastings featuring Lagunitas Maximus, Lagunitas IPA, Lagunitas Pale Ale, Lagunitas Hop Stoopid, Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball, Lagunitas GnarlyWine, and Lagunitas Cappucino. As an added bonus, they’re also going to do a vertical of Brown Shugga vintages! They’ll be tasting 2006-2009 bottles of Brown Sugga. Additional information can be found at their blog.

Cory from deVine Wines and Spirts, located at 2961 Dougherty Ferry Rd, holds a beer tasting every Wednesday evening from from 5PM to 8PM. Each Wednesday will offer up a few new beers for you to taste. Swing on by and check it out.

There are four major ingredients that go into making beer: water, malt, yeast and hops.  If that final ingredient is the one you can’t quite wrap your head around, then maybe you need to make it out to the International Tap House next Wednesday, March 3rd starting at 7PM.

Mikkeller out of Denmark has produced a series of IPAs where each recipe is identical except it features only a single type of hop.  What this allows you to do is see what kind of flavors and aromas that each type of hop can provide to a beer. Each sample of beer will be $3 for a 5oz sample.  Here’s a list of ten beers that will be available for tasting:

• Nelson Sauvin Single Hop IPA
• Nugget Single Hop IPA
• Simcoe Single Hop IPA

Thanks to Brent in the forums, he’s provided a few other tidbits about this event including the fact that prizes will be given away like iTAP gift certificates, Mikkeller products, and  Hops Direct will be giving away 5lbs of hops!  Also, Brent believes that iTAP will be the only place in the world that is serving all ten of these beers on draught at the same time.

So basically, this is kind of a big deal.  I’d bet this is one of those deals that you may never see come back around again. If I were you, I’d probably head out to iTAP next Wednesday and check this out.

Double your pleasure and double your casks next week at Cicero’s when they bring in, two, count ‘em, two casks of Bell’s beer.  As part of next week’s beer school, Bell’s Brewery will be offering up a cask of Two Hearted Ale and Expedition Stout.

This class has been put together to display the difference in cask conditioned beer versus bottle conditioned or force carbonated beer.  It’s an interesting experience that will sure to leave your taste buds very, very happy.

This event will be taking place next Wednesday, March 3rd starting at 5:30PM.  I will warn you that seats are first come, and this class will fill up quickly, so get up their early.

The Mattingly Brewing Company may now be producing full scale productions of beer, but that doesn’t stop them from showing off what’s yet to come. Tonight, Head Brewer Drew Huerter and Assistant Brewer Jerid Saffell will be offering their Pinball Blizzard Rye IPA.

Cicero’s Italian Restaurant continues their Winter Beer School semester this Wednesday from 5:30-6:30PM. Cicero’s Beer School provides background about beers and beer styles usually directly from people directly in the beer industry. It’s perfect opportunity to learn more about a style you’re unfamiliar with or to just brush up on a style you haven’t enjoyed in a while.

This week’s school is being hosted by Ron Lindenbusch and Karen Hamilton from Lagunitas Brewing. Ron and Karen will be on hand to discuss and sample some of the Lagunitas beers including the Dogtown Pale Ale, Hop Stoopid, Pils, Hairy Eyeball and IPA. Go out and take advantage of one of the few places where you can drink and learn!
