As tonight is the final night of St. Louis Craft Beer Week, it only seems fitting that the final event is devoted to a man who devoted his life to beer in St. Louis. Last year, Henry Herbst helped to put on one of my favorite events during last year’s Craft Beer Week when he had a discussion about craft beer in America.
Unfortunately Henry is no longer with us, but we thought we’d make this discussion a yearly event and name it in his honor. So tonight, the Schlafly Bottleworks will play host for the Herbst Brewing Symposium.
This year’s Symposium will be given by Dr. Bill Vollmar, formerly Anheuser-Busch’s corporate historian and also featured on the History Channel’s special: Empires of Industry – Brewed in America.
Last year Henry Herbst described the history of craft brewing brewing in America as it began in the late 1960’s. This year Dr. Vollmar will be discussing the history of brewing in America starting from the 1600s up until the 1950’s. We could think of no better bookend to Henry’s original discussion.
Tonight’s discussion begins at 7:30PM and will be held in the Schlafly Bottleworks Crown Room. Seating will probably fill up fast, so I’d make sure to get there early.
