crownvalleybrewery.gifCrown Valley Brewery will be hosting their inaugural Brewmaster’s Dinner this Friday night, October 2nd.  Happy Hour begins at 6PM with the dinner beginning at 7:30PM.

Crown Valley will be offering up a four course meal that will pay tribute to some of Oktoberfest’s most delicious dishes.  Each course will be paired with a different Crown Valley Beer.

This event will also provide you with the first opportunity to try CV’s newest release, Oktoberfest Beer.  It will also allow you to tour their very impressive brewing facility and meet the brewers that brew the beer.

Tickets for this event at $45 and you must RSVP by calling 573-756-9700.

hopsartArt St. Louis will be holding Hops Art 2009 Saturday, October 17th from 6PM-9PM. According to their website, Art Saint Louis helps to create exhibitions, while supporting growth opportunities for emerging and established contemporary artists within the St. Louis region.

Hops Art 2009 allows local artists talents to be displayed all while enjoying local cuisine and local beers. Here’s the quote from the press release:

Hops Art is an evening of outstanding art along with scrumptious cuisine paired with tasty beer. The main focus of Hops Art is an image presentation of Art Saint Louis member artwork. One presentation will be projected; several additional presentations will be viewable on laptops positioned around the gallery. Again this year, participating artists will exhibit one piece of artwork to compliment the image presentation. St. Louis area restaurants and caterers will be on hand to sample their delectable menus and local breweries and distributors will sample their latest brews.

Hops Art will take place at the Art Saint Louis gallery which is located at 555 Washington Avenue, #150, St. Louis, MO 63101. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 day of show. They can be purchased at the Art St. Louis Gallery.

This is a great chance to help local artists all while enjoying some beer and food.

averyI think there are few things more fascinating than meeting the guys that brew the beer we drink.  The International Tap House agrees and they’ll be hosting brewer/owner Adam Avery of Avery Brewing in an event they’re calling The Avery Experience.

HOLY S#*$! That’s a hell of a line-up. Like most good things in life, this one isn’t free. It’s going to cost you $25 to attend and you’ll need to make a reservation by emailing

image003I know people have been asking about it and looking for it, your wait is almost over.  Starting next week, we should begin seeing Boulevard Brewing’s Boulevard Pilsner hitting the shelves.  Also, if you haven’t read it, visit KC Beer Blog for an awesome review of this beer.

What about the some of the sought after Smokestack beers?  Well, SeeYouLator Dopplebock is now available on store shelves and I’ve been told that 48 cases of  the Limited Release Saison-Brett should be arriving in October.
But the news I was most exciting about getting yesterday was that of a new kid on the Smokestack block.  In November, we should see the release of Harvest Dance Wheat Wine.  If you don’t know what a wheat wine is, think Barleywine, but with wheat.  I’m a big fan of these beers because the wheat adds a wonderful viscosity to the beer.

Maybe it’s just the weather these past two days, but I’m really looking forward to fall.

img_0233You had your chance to try it.  You saw the photos.  You loved it.  Well, the judges at the Great American Beer Festival loved it also.  The collaborative effort between local homebrewer Jim Yeager and O’Fallon Brewery became Alright Already Amber and it came out of the GABF Pro-Am competition with a Silver Medal.

Over 72 entries were received in this competition from 21 different states.  This is a huge accomplishment and I want to congratulate Jim and everyone at O’Fallon for winning this award.  I don’t know if this beer is still available anywhere, hopefully someone can chime in and let us know if people can still sample this.

I need to get this out into the open, just for full disclosure.  I’m now officially a part-time employee of the St. Louis Brewery.  What does this mean for STL Hops?  Nothing really.

The content of STL Hops won’t change.  I’m not being asked to say or not say anything. Let’s be honest, Schlafly has the same goal as we do, to get people drinking more craft beer and to work together to get it done.

And frankly, as much as I love my new job, (I mean, I love talking about beer and now I get paid to do it) it’s a part-time tour guide position.  It’s not exactly life-changing money.

So, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, feel free to leave them in the comments sections or email me directly:
