crownvalleybrewery.gifThe Ste. Genevieve mainstay Crown Valley Winery is expanding into the brewing and distilling business.  The new Crown Valley Brewery and Distillery will be opening soon and Brewmaster Mark Walters is eager to show off his handy-work.  Mark will be at Spokes Pub and Grill from 1Pm-5PM on Saturday, January 31st.

Mark will be bringing along their first six beers to sample, which are the Sleighbell Spiced Ale, Barnwood Blonde Ale, Old School Pilsner, Big Bison Ale (dubbel), Crown Valley Raspberry Wheat and Worktruck Wheat (hefeweizen).  According to Sauce Magazine, Crown Valley is set to open this spring with a 120-seat taproom and a 150-seat beer garden.

codfestlogo2.gifFish and chips, fresh cod and Real Ale?  Where do I sign up?  Well, luckily no sign up is required to attend Schlafly‘s 2009 Cod and Cask Festival on Friday February 6th (5PM to Midnight) and Saturday February 7th (5PM to Midnight). Schlafly brings in the freshest cod as well as bringing in Icelandic Chef Hakon Orvarsson to help serve up all of this fish!

If that wasn’t enough, what goes better with Fish and Chips but cask-conditioned ale?  These beers are carbonated in the cask and hand pumped up to the bar at “cellar temperature” to provide the most authentic experience this side of the pond.

Schlafly brewer Brennan Greene assures me that he’s is doing his best this year to make sure cask beer is available all weekend, but just to be certain I would show up as early as you can on Friday to make sure you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Be certain to check out the Codzilla video on the Schlafly website.
